We had five players for this highway attack scenario. Four players were the attackers, I was the defender. Three of the attackers controlled two cars.
The attacking cars were the following. Pisces, Bombardier, Joseph Special, Conestoga, Piranha, and two Time Shifters.
The defenders trying to get away were a Security Six, a Slugfest, and a Shield which has a turreted VMG and an MG in both the front and back. These vehicles all have a driver and gunner and two hi-res computers (+2 to hit).
What looked like a possible easy escape from the defenders turned out to be a battle down to the wire. In fact only one car on each side was left after 5 hours of game time with the final attacker car completing the mission.
This is 2X original scale, the table is 12 feet long.
This was a 4 player game, 3 Space Marine players, and one Horror player.
The map was something I made up, and it was the first game we have played of Space Hulk were we didn't use an official scenario.
Well, the Space Marines got slaughtered. Not one of the players the first two games made it a third of the way to the objective. We cut down the blips showing up in half, which made things closer, but still was a slaughter.
Before the game we did talk about how this was going to be a test run to see how the map played and to keep in mind how to keep the game balanced. We did play the heck out of the game that night and had much discussion about how to balance it.
There is talk about running this game at conventions.
And this is a pretty good shot of the nights typical ending for the Space Marines.
Our second game of Check Your Six. We had six players. 6 Japanese Oscars jump 6 P-40 Tomahawks.
It went bad for the Japanese right away and never got better. The Oscars are just not much of a match for the Tomahawks firepower. The Oscars have one light and one heavy machinegun. A Tomahawk has 6 heavy machineguns.
The skill of the pilots were about the same on each side. This was a poorly balanced scenario. The Japanese would need quite a bit of help to balance this one.
We had four duelists battle it out at the" Stars Arena" in Waco. After the duel we got in a race event also.
The "Stars Arena" soon closed after its opening due to financial issues. It recently had been purchased and re-opened, but still lacks the funds of more popular arenas. Wrecks and debris between events are rarely removed from the arena so as the events go by in a day the arena floor gets more dangerous and difficult to move around.
The arena also holds racing events. Close to each entryway there is a raised area (treat as hitting a sidewalk and going off a sidewalk) with a concrete star in the center. Duelist can fire over the star, but cannot drive over it. The duelist after entering the arena must decide which way to go then complete a lap by hitting all the star circles in their loop.
The race was fun. We had two cars skid into the concreate stars and end their game. The other two cars battled it out twice as they crossed each other. It will definitely be an event we will do again.
We had six players for this duel that took place in the Akron Rubber Way arena.
The Rubberyway is one of the oldest bi-level arenas in the Mid-West, and still one of the most popular among touring duellists. Action is fast and furious as combatants race over and around the central platform.
The cars were stock having a recoilless rifle in the front, med heavy rockets on the side, and a spear 1000 mine dropper in the back.
To keep players in the game, after your car is lost you have another car enter at your starter gate.
Points are awarded for kills and for keeping your car intact.
Our group was able to borrow this game two years ago and got to play it a few times. Personally, I fell in love with this game. This game and playing this game can be tense. On the Space Marine side your moves are timed, so you have to complete your turn fast, and bad moves can be deadly. The success you are having can turn on a dime, and that means in the game your Marines are being ripped to shreds.
If on a table top you ever wanted to recreate the scene in Aliens where the Marines are in the lair of the enemy and trying to survive by fire power, this is the game.
When we borrowed the game, it was out of production and the cost to purchase a used copy was around $350. So at the time I decided to make and build a custom set that could accommodate 6 or so players instead of the 2 with the purchased version.
So two years later, my custom set finally hit the table and we got two games in.
We've done some things to try to up the pressure and intensity of the game for the players. The timer is now very thrashy and heavy metal music, when the song is done your turn is up. The room is dimmed and there are multiple alert lights. We've done a few more things as well as liquoring up before we start.
Space Marines
The Bad Guys - Original game uses Gene Stealers, I substituted these pink crazy looking bastards because I thought the figures are so cool.
